Alighiero e Boetti. Doubling by Halving
Curated by Marco Tirelli
Concept by Marco Tirelli and Caterina Boetti
The Accademia Nazionale di San Luca is dedicating the exhibition Alighiero e Boetti. Doubling by Halving to one of the most visionary and influential artists of the 20th century. Curated by Marco Tirelli and conceived together with Caterina Boetti, president of the Alighiero e Boetti Foundation, the exhibition commemorates the thirtieth anniversary of Alighiero Boetti's passing (Turin, 1940 – Rome, 1994). The Salone d’Onore, the Sala Bianca, and the Borrominian portico of Palazzo Carpegna will host a carefully selected group of works centered around the themes of the double and the proliferation from one to many. This exhibition offers an unusual exploration of his work, highlighting its most rigorous, conceptual, and imaginative aspects, focusing on a monumental, rarely exhibited piece.Displayed in the Salone d’Onore, which has been reconfigured for the occasion by a major architectural structure, this unique work represents, in a kind of cosmography, the summation of all the artist's previous work and "brings back to life" the highest moments of his artistic research. As Marco Tirelli emphasizes: "An artist like Alighiero founded a new and unheard-of concept of the classical, where rigor, norms, models, and rules are always unstable, self-generating, and proliferating, even in their fixed state as immobile objects. No work of Alighiero's is ever fully contained within itself, within its physical body or the date it was made, but always opens up to new meanings, to something beyond itself. His works are protean; they transform under our gaze. They unsettle and reassure at the same time."The exhibition is held under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic.
