A selection of works by Mario Schifano
The Marconi Foundation is pleased to display a selection of works realised by Mario Schifano in the Sixties, together with his movie script, written in 1969 and never published before. Recently recovered by film producer Gianni Barcelloni Corte (it was thought to be lost), it has been published by Archivio Mario Schifano and included in the Grande Angolo series of booklets devoted to protagonists, themes and cultural topics connected to Schifano’s activity. Giorgio Marconi saw Schifano’s works in Rome for the first time. He personally met the artist in the Sixties, became his gallerist and promoted his work in Studio Marconi. Thus started an intense and fruitful collaboration that lasted until 1970. The years of the student protest movement certainly influenced Schifano’s vision of life and the works on show, belonging to those years, well document his socio-political interests. Among them, we just mention the big canvas Bisogna farsi un’ottica (Franco Angeli, Tano Festa) of 1965; the works of the Compagni compagni series of 1968 and Storia nel paesaggio e Particolare del paesaggio. More than representing the end of an era, these works represented the beginning of a new one in Mario Schifano’s artistic activity.
