The Marconi Foundation is pleased to announce the return of Lucio Del Pezzo, after his last retrospective in 1995.
This exhibition will present works from 1958 to 1972, at the ground floor and at the first floor, and recent works, watercolours and drawings, gathered in the series De Architectura at the third floor.
Del Pezzo’s artistic career will be thoroughly documented through the works on display: from those from the mid-Fifties to the ones from the early Seventies, up to the last series realised in 2008-2009.
Going back the way that links the cities where the artist worked the most – Naples, the education period; Milan, where he participated to the blazing cultural atmosphere and where he moved permanently from 1979; Paris, where he lived in Max Ernst’s old studio and where his work began to be known internationally – the show intends to retrace the artist's creative route: from the evolution of the neo-dadaist figuration of the early years, full of references to popular Neapolitan culture, to a rational geometry with a metaphysical flavour, where the simplicity of the forms refer to an archetypal dimension, but also bear signs of the influence of pop art.

The new works reflect on architectural ideas that inspired both architects of our time, such as Antoni Gaudì and Konstantin Stepanovic Melnikov, as well as great architects of the past, like Leon Battista Alberti, Andrea Palladio, Francesco Borromini and Bramante among the others.
This research originated from the passion Del Pezzo has always had for architecture and its rules.
In fact, the artist has been defined by André Pieyre de Mandiargues "insubordinate architect" because, whether his works recall the severity and the proportion typical in architecture, “opposed to architects..., his point of honour is not to build anything on concrete or stone and especially not to produce anything that can be useful”.
