The Marconi Foundation is pleased to present the exhibition Inediti 1977-1978 e opere recenti 2010-2011 by Gianfranco Pardi.
Since the end of the Sixties the artist has started a remark over architecture, “a free immersion within that territory which surrounds architecture” (G. M. Accame), by representing architectonic interiors and exteriors, that will be later titled Architectures.
"When I’m working on a specific problem that I call 'architecture', I know I’m not talking about architecture and that my work does not produce a sort of abstract architecture. But all my work has been focused just on this problem." (G. Pardi)
Gianfranco Pardi’s work is centred on the building possibilities of the form, with a reference to the avantgarde utopias and contradictions: Russian suprematism and constructivism and Dutch neoplasticism. He makes a new reading of the main characters of those artistic movements as Malevič, Tatlin and El Lisitzky.
The exhibition displayed on the two floors of the Marconi Foundation, will present a very important cycle from Pardi's artistic activity, titled Diagonali from the end of the Seventies and some new works from 2010 -2011. Both Diagonali and the recent works will be shown for the first time.

The cycle of Diagonali was thought for an exhibition in 1978 but then Pardi preferred to present other more recent paintings. So now these canvases, out of the storage, are shown next to the new works.
The artist says about Diagonali: "all these canvases share beyond the title 'Diagonale' a kind of prearranged structure – a system of diagonal intersections – as a topographic grid on the canvas, open to different solutions. In these works the image and the space perception are deconstructed through the elements’ disjunction".
The recent paintings realised between 2010 and 2011, are displayed on the second floor: it’s not abstract art, despite the unique presence of geometric elements.
Pardi is always looking for a figure. The figure is lighthly rolled compared to the canvas, so that the framework doesn’t limit the figure that in this way could be autonomous compared to the space.
These paintings are done using very fluent acrylics on a raw canvas so that surface won’t be completely covered by colour. Blue, black and yellow are recurrent ones, while Pardi never uses green or red, that are colours with a reference to naturalism.
On this occasion the Quaderno della Fondazione Marconi no. 5 will be published, including images of the works exhibited, photographs and texts by Gianfranco Pardi and Federico Sardella.
