The Marconi Foundation is pleased to announce an exhibition featuring Enrico Baj's latest works and some recent acquisitions by the Foundation.
For this occasion Enrico Crispolti will present the third and last volume of the artist's catalogue raisonné, Enrico Baj. Catalogo generale delle opere dal 1996 al 2003, published by Fondazione Marconi-Milan, Menhir Arte Contemporanea-La Spezia and Comune di Pontedera.
This third volume follows and complements the first artist's catalogue published in 1973, Catalogo generale Bolaffi delle opere di Enrico Baj that was followed in 1997 by a second volume, Enrico Baj. Catalogo generale delle opere dal 1972 al 1996.
This general catalogue will include a critical text by Enrico Crispolti, a poem by Edoardo Sanguineti, De pictura, texts by Enrico Baj and a contribution by Luciano Caprile.
All annexes and information sheets have been curated by Roberta Cerini Baj as for the previous volumes.
The thematic and chronological itinerary starts with the project Monumento a Bakunin, 1996, followed by the Totem, wood and objects assemblages dating back to 1997-2000, the Feltri 1996-1999, works with fanciful titles, often populated with monstruous figures, the Guermantes 1999-2000, small "Proustian" portraits, the Cartoni, meccano collages and the Teli 1999-2003, figures made with acrylics and spray varnish on canvas.

In 2002 the Opere idrauliche, the "river-ladies" inspired by the theme of the "ladies", where hydraulic components like taps, siphons, tubes and valves are additional elements to the fabric and passementerie collage and the Monumenti idraulici, small copper and brass sculptures.
In 2003 the project for Muro di Pontedera has been Baj's last big-sized work.
Beside some acquisitions of historic works from the Nuclear period, the "mirrors", the "decorated characters" and the "ladies", a selection of the artist's latest works will be on display.
Among them there will be Enrico Baj's project for the Muro di Pontedera: ten cardboards (20 x 100 cm each) composing a mural running alongside Pontedera's railway line.
This work, completed some days before the artist's death on June 16, reaffirms Baj's idea according to which art can be civic commitment, but also pleasure and game, imagination and freedom.
