The Marconi Foundation is pleased to present the exhibition Il Mondo Nuovo by Aldo Spoldi.
In a letter to Mr. Giorgio Marconi, the artist describes the fictitious situation in which he has developed this exhibition project.
Some weird characters (born from his imagination) the art critic Angelo Spettacoli, the philosopher Andrea Bortolon, the photographer Met Levi and the artist Cristina Karanovic, scared by the financial crisis of 2008 have taken refuge in Aldo Spoldi’s studio, where they have set up a new Art Academy named Accademia dello Scivolo.
This sort of creative enclusion, however, has become a strong boost for the artist. The virtual personalities suggested him the big-sized work (4 x 18 m) that titles the exhibition at the Marconi Foundation: Il Mondo Nuovo.
The painting represents a sculpture float, filled up with coloured characters engaged in various recreational activities: someone is playing music, or thombing his nose, mocking who is on the other side, someone else is shooting the scene, or riding a bicycle, or flying on a toy airplane, and all around there are a rainbow, a clown, a juggler,a lot of animals…
These masked characters dragg the float away from Postmodern Society, a society in the dumps, to the so called New World. A world where fantasy replaces reality.
The New World represents the collapse of modern society, the society of entertainment, after the financial crisis and the subsequent entrance into a new world.

The playful dimension can be found in all Aldo Spoldi’s work and it leads the reading of the work exhibited.
The artist is very ironic in matching images and events. In addition to the big-sized painting, drawings and projects of the float will be on show, commissioned to the artist from Fondazione Carnevale in Viareggio for Carnevalotto Award 2011 (a cultural event to which famous artists have taken part since 1987 with paintings and sculptures related to carnival).
This year the carnival parade in Viareggio will be opened by Aldo Spoldi’s float.
The float is the result of a research on Carnival, read again after the financial crisis. combining painting, photography, philosophy and art critic.
The artist thus describes his work, “the float is a fictious and total grand opera”.
The exhibition will be accompanied by the catalogue Un Dio non può farsi male, written by the virtual character Andrea Bortolon and published by Mousse Publishing that recollects Aldo Spoldi’s thoughts with speeches by the virtual personalities and with a cd with the opera L’ape e il mondo nuovo played by the virtual orchestra Karanovic.
