The Marconi Foundation is pleased to present Adriano Altamira’s fifth solo exhibition held at the Studio and the Marconi Foundation since 1979, that will offer a comparison between his earlier and more recent works.
While on the one hand there is an ongoing fundamental adherence to his original premises in all his work, on the other, new modes of inquiry have also emerged.
In the case of his best-known series of works, Area di Coincidenza, based on the recurrence of the same cultural constants, the aim is to show how coincidences and similarities occur in the iconic solutions of artists who at times do not even know each other’s work.
These short circuits are an indication of the convergence on a single solution "found" by different people in the same period.
Certain works on display also emphasise psychological aspects which were seldom dwelt on in the past.

The exhibition will continue with the Vasari Complex cycle, shown in a complete form for the first time.
These works are expressly dedicated to famous masterpieces of the past, such as the Brera Altarpiece by Piero della Francesca, Michelangelo’s Last Judgement and Antonello da Messina’s Annunciation.
Most of these works are the result of earlier insights, others are more recent, but on show here is a final version of each one of them, made in recent years.
Altamira’s idea is to crystallise into a single dazzling image, a critical reflection or an inner feeling, summarised in an icon, which is uniquely more effective than many words.
Martina Mazzotta’s critical essay will be published in the Quaderno della Fondazione no. 15, illustrated by the works on show.
